Aromatherapy – Lavender

Sep 3rd, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a modern term for a healing art that is ages old. Rene Maurice Gattefosse, a French perfume chemist, created the term in the 1920’s when he published a scientific research paper titled ‘aromatherapy.’

Lavender is thought to be one of the few items Adam and Eve carried out of the Garden of Eden.

Queen Elizabeth I drank an abundance of Lavender tea to help ease her Migraines and used it as a body perfume.

Queen Victoria is most notable for making Lavender popular across England and it could be found, in one form or another, in every one of her rooms, as she used it to wash floors and furniture, freshen the air, A.D.H.D.it strewn among the linens.

Gattefosse encountered the healing properties of Lavender when he plunged his arm into a vat of Lavender oil. He had obtained a 3rd degree burn during a laboratory accident and intended to submerge his arm in water; however, he synchronistically mistook the Lavender for water. The Lavender not only reduced his pain – through several repeated applications his arm healed with no scarring.

Balancing the 11 Chakras With Color

Sep 1st, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Color, Crystal Therapy

Color is used in many forms to heal and aid the sick, diseased and distressed. As a color therapist I use the following color to balance the 11 chakras of the physical and energy body of the person. I always start with the heart chakra, the center of the human form and the seat of the soul. Here are the colors I use to balance the 11 chakras:

Heart Chakra: Green (4th) Green is the color of harmony and balance. It is good for tired nerves and it helps with the heart area. It will balance the emotions and bring about a feeling of calmness. Green is a good general healing color because it stimulates growth so it is good for helping heal broken bones, regret of tissue of all kinds. Green is a good color for Pregnant women to help create an atmosphere of serenity and calm. Too much green may create more negative energy if there is some already present in the person being treated.

Color Therapy Part II

Aug 31st, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Color, Crystal Therapy

by Helen Graham

TWENTIETH-CENTURY SCIENCE

Investigations into the therapeutic use of color were carried out in Europe during the early twentieth century, notably by Rudolph Steiner, who related color to form, shape, and sound. He suggested that the vibrational quality of certain colors is amplified by some forms, and that certain combinations of color and shape have either destructive or regenerative effects on living organisms. In the schools inspired by Steiners work, classrooms are painted and textured to correspond to the mood of children at various stages of their development.

Rudolph Steiners work was continued by Theo Gimbel, who established the Hygeia Studios and College of Color Therapy in Britain. Among the principles explored by Gimbel are the claims of Max Luscher, a former professor of psychology at Basle University, who claimed that color preferences demonstrate states of mind and/or glandular imbalance, and can be used as the basis for physical and psychological diagnosis. Luschers theory, which forms the basis of the Luscher Color Test, rests on the idea that the significance of color for man originates in his early history, when his behavior was governed by night and day. Luscher believed that the colors associated with these two environments ‘ yellow and dark Blue ‘ are connected with differences in metabolic rate and glandular secretions appropriate to the energy required for nighttime sleep and daytime hunting. He also believed that autonomic (involuntary) responses are associated with other colors.

The History of Color Therapy

Aug 2nd, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Color, Crystal Therapy

The effects of color on life must have been of great significance to early human beings, whose very existence was governed by light and darkness. Most living things appear to be vitalized by the bright reds, oranges, and yellows of daylight and calmed and rejuvenated by the blues, indigos, and violets of the night.

For the ancients, the colors that make up sunlight were each considered to show a different aspect of the divine and to influence different qualities of life. Color is therefore an important feature in the symbolism of ancient cultures throughout the world, and the origins of Healing With Color in Western civilization can be traced back to the mythology of Ancient Egypt and Greece.

Menopause: A Dictionary of Emotional Angst

Jul 2nd, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Women's Health

If women could write a book of words to describe how they feel during the perimenopausal and menopause stages, it would probably be a best seller. The title could very well be, “Menopause: The Dictionary of Emotional Angst.” Not bad, right? Let’s go through some of the emotional changes experienced during menopause.

While considered a normal part of the process, some of the emotional changes experienced by women undergoing perimenopause or menopause can include: irritability; feelings of sadness; lack of motivation; anxiety; aggressiveness; difficulty concentrating; fatigue; mood wings; and tension.

Irritability and feelings of sadness are the most common emotional symptoms of menopause. Often, they can be managed through changes in your lifestyle, such as learning ways to relax and reduce stress. Here are some tips that may make it easier for you to handle your up and down emotions. Exercise and eat healthy; find a calming skill to practice, such as yoga, meditation or breathing exercises; avoid tranquilizers and alcohol; engage in a creative outlet that invokes a sense of achievement; and stay connected with your family and friends,
While most everyone has experience the aforementioned symptoms (if you haven’t – consider yourself lucky!) feelings of depression can accompany menopause. Although it is not caused by menopause, some women do exhibit the symptoms of depression during this time. If you are feeling increasingly unable to cope, see your doctor.
