Dandelion

Mar 3rd, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Herbs for Health

The Dandelion is an herbaceous plant that really is much more than just a nuisance in your yard. For all purposes, the Dandelion leaves are at their best just as they emerge from the ground and they are very distinct as nothing really resembles this at all. Depending on when you harvest the Dandelion leaves will determine the bitterness of them but it is an appealing bitterness.

These leaves that are considered an herb blend nicely with salads and do well either sauted or steamed. Many claim the taste is similar to that of endive. People who are into eating the fruits of nature claim that it is perfectly acceptable to eat the Dandelion flower as well. Some claim that they make outstanding fritters if they are battered up and fried and make a colorful contribution to any stir fry.

Sep 30th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Beauty & Personal Care

‘Make up and skin care’ is generally regarded as women’s forte. Men seldom indulge in ‘Make up and skin care’. Many men do care for their skin but make up is really alien to most men. Treating make up and skin care as different topics wouldn’t make sense; after all, make up will work only if the skin is healthy. So how do you exercise make up and skin care, together? Here are some tips for make up and skin care:

* Always have skin care on mind, whether you are buying products for make up or actually applying them onto your skin after you have bought them. So what you are buying is a ‘make up and skin care’ product, not just a make up product. Check the ingredients to see if it contains things that you might be allergic to. Also check if it contains high concentration chemicals that can harm your skin.

The Facts About Oily Skin Care

Sep 28th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Beauty & Personal Care

To start the discussion on oily skin care, it’s imperative to first understand the cause behind oily skin. Put simply, oily skin is a result of excessive production of sebum (an oily substance that is naturally produced by skin). As is known to everyone, excess of everything is bad; so excessive sebum is bad too. It leads to clogging of skin pores, resulting in accumulation of dead cells and hence formation of pimples/acne. Moreover, oily skin spoils your looks too. So, ‘oily skin care’ is as important as the ‘skin care’ for other types of skin.

The basic aim of ‘oily skin care’ is the removal of excessive sebum or oil from the skin. However, oily skin care procedures should not lead to complete removal of oil. ‘Oily skin care’ starts with the use of a cleanser. However, not all cleansers will work. You need a cleanser which contains salicylic acid i.e. a beta-hydroxy acid that retards the rate of sebum production. Cleansing should be done twice a day (and even more in hot and humid conditions).

Sep 24th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Beauty & Personal Care

‘Serious skin care’ is about maintaining a healthy and glowing skin all through your life. As you grow older, your body’s natural skin care mechanisms become weaker. So, ‘serious skin care’ is about responding to the changing needs of your skin. Thus, ‘serious skin care’ is about constantly evaluating, analysing and changing your skin care routines. Your skin care routine should change based on the environmental conditions, your age and changes in your skin type.

‘Serious skin care’ is also about awareness. With the technological advancements and research, more and more facts are being brought to light everyday. Also, the composition and nature of skin care products seems to be changing with time. So trying out the new products is also a part of serious skin care. However, ‘serious skin care’ advises using a new product over a small patch of skin (not facial skin) first, just to see how your skin reacts to it.

Caring for Cysts

Aug 10th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Skin Ailments

Many people suffer from acne, and some types of acne can be more serious than others. For instance, cysts are usually considered moderate to severe forms of acne. Here are some tips for caring for cysts.

Cysts are different than normal white heads or black heads. White heads and black heads are hair follicles that become clogged with sebum which is an oily substance that bacteria feed off of. White heads are completely clogged follicles filled with sebum, bacteria and dead skin. Black heads are semi clogged pimples clogged with sebum, bacteria and dead skin. The black head does not come from dirt as most people think, but rather pigmentation.

Cysts are infected nodules or pimples underneath the skin. Cysts are infected with bacteria and should not be squeezed or popped as normally is the case with white heads and black heads. When caring for cysts you should avoid pressure to the area. Popping a cyst can cause pain, and infection to other areas underneath the skin. Most cysts are usually 5mm or larger. If your cyst continues to increase in size or does not dissipate, you should consult with a pharmacist or dermatologist.

Men Have Special Issues That Natural Remedies Can Relieve

Jul 2nd, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Men's Health

There are natural remedies that can help males deal with issues that they have including acne, arthritis, hemorrhoids, managing cholesterol, and quitting smoking.

Acne can occur in both males and females. It is an inflammatory disorder of the sebaceous glands. These glands are the oil glands. They increase during puberty and secrete more sebum then they normally do. The excess sebum becomes trapped under the skin. The gland breaks, spilling sebum, and irritating the skin. The sebum that irritates the skin is what causes pimples to form. Acne can occur on the male’s face, back, neck and chest.

Acne can be successfully treated with natural remedies such as using colloidal silver either orally or applied directly on the affected skin area. You can also use garlic capsules to boost your immune system and kill the bacteria that are often found with acne. You should drink a lot of water to help clear the waste products from your body. It is important to eat foods that are high in fiber to keep your colon clean. Eat shellfish, soybeans, sunflower seeds, and nuts because they are rich in zinc and zinc is a natural antibacterial which helps combat the bacteria associated with acne.
