Essential Oils Used in Healing

Nov 6th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Aromatherapy, Featured Articles

essential oils for healingIf you are ill, you should generally turn to a physician for help. However, in many countries, essential oils are used in the mainstream medical community. So, if you still need help after seeing your doctor, you can use essential oils to help you heal.

The first thing to remember when using essential oils for healing is that you need to buy only the certified therapeutic grade oils. These oils are purer and more concentrated. They will cost more, but if you buy the cheaper oils they will have little healing effect.

Essential oils strengthen your immune system. They can help with viruses and cold sores, for example. Clove, lemon, cinnamon, rosemary, and neroli are just some of the essential oils that will help in this area.

There are also essential oils that are powerful antifungal agents. Some of these are tea tree, lemon grass, and rosemary oils. Fungi can cause many problems in the body. Many people are allergic to mold. Allergies of all types can be treated with tansy, spikenard, cajeput, and chamomile, to name a few. Tansy, along with eucalyptus and marjoram are essential oils used to help with asthma. Bronchitis can be eased with eucalyptus, rosemary, and thyme oils.

Aromatherapy for Teenagers

Sep 4th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Aromatherapy

By Francoise Rapp

Adolescence is one of the most difficult stages of our lives. During this dynamic period, we not only encounter awkward physical changes such as skin problems and weight issues but we also see a rise in the expectations we face from family and society, which brings emotional conflict. In fact, one-third of American teens claim they suffer daily from stress-related issues, including sleep deprivation, anxiety and depression. The other two-thirds say they feel stress-related symptoms at least once a week.

Teenagers in general have a tendency to shut down their emotions as a method of coping with the influx of change in their lives. They may also become irritable, angry, provocative, or resort to drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism. This stage is also extremely difficult on the parents, who must also come to terms with their teens, who are no longer children.

The following aromatic recipes can be used to help teens better cope with the emotional and physical stress they face.

Essential Oils In The Bath

Sep 2nd, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Aromatherapy

There are several ways to use essential oils in the bath. First, of course, they can just be added neat and undiluted to the water. This gives the bath a wonderful aroma and you the therapeutic values of whichever oils you have chosen. But the oils can also be incorporated into homemade bath crystals, bath oils and bubble baths.

Most of the prettily packaged bath crystals you can buy in the shops are nothing more than washing soda crystals with color and fragrance added. To make your own at home couldn’t be easier and if you save attractive glass jars over the year. Simply crush washing soda crystals, add a little food coloring, and the essential oils of your choice – to each 250 grams add 20 drops of essential oil. Tie a few ribbons around the jars, et voila . . .

Jasmine – Heaven Scent Aromatherapy

Sep 1st, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Aromatherapy

By Annie B. Bond, Author of Better Basics for the Home (Three Rivers Press, 1999). http://www.care2.com/

The smell of Jasmine transports me to moonlit summer nights with the soft, sensual scent of Jasmine wafting through the night air. It is no surprise, given that in India Jasmine is called queen of the night, because the scent is stronger after sunset. The scent is known to be comforting, calming, and certainly sensual, and I also always associate it with romance.

Try this homemade Jasmine perfume formula to open the doors of romance, to calm, and uplift the mind. Known as a Fertility oil, it is healing for sexuality and even known to ease the trauma of giving birth.

Cupid was known to tip his arrows with Jasmine blossoms, to help inspire love and desire! Jasmine oil is also antidepressive, being mildly euphoric. Make sure you buy a pure jasmine oil that is produced through the purest process, without the use of solvents. Absolute oils are those that derive the oil through solvent extraction rather than stream distillation. The purest jasmine oil of all is derived from the old-fashioned enfleurage process using oil extraction, traditionally made of animal fat.

Improve Your Health with Aromatherapy

Aug 31st, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy, a term created in 1920, involves the use of essential oils that are compounds in their purist state. The oils are concentrated liquids derived from plants through a variety of means: distillation, solvent extraction or expression processing. And the resulting oils are then used as treatment for a variety of ailments and healing.

Aromatherapy was actually coined because of Mr. Rene Maurice Gattefosse. While he was conducting research about how oils might aid healing, his arm caught fire and subsequently poured Lavender oil onto it by accidental, which in turn caused the arm to heal faster, leaving no Scar. Since that time, many have delved into how aromatherapy can help with physical and emotional healing.

Popular Uses

Some common uses for aromatherapy oils are as scents for homes and offices to help trigger relaxing feelings from occupants and to also help get rid of unwanted smells and germs. For example, lighting candles and burning wax chips made with aromatherapy oils can help rid a kitchen of smelly fried onion and other food smells.

History, Myths and Legends of Aromatherapy

Aug 31st, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Aromatherapy

VARIOUS CIVILISATIONS throughout history have employed the use of aromatic plants for religious, medicinal, cosmetic and magickal purposes. One of the earliest forms of aromatherapy was the use of aromatic plants as Incense. The word perfume comes from the Latin word perfumum, which means through smoke. This would have originally referred to the use of Incense. Incense was burned as a way to get rid of evil spirits, which many of the ancients considered to be the cause of disease. Associations became made between the healing of disease and the aromas of the plants used in the healing treatments, and this became the early foundation for what we now know today as aromatherapy.

Guidelines For Using Oils On The Face

Aug 31st, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Aromatherapy

Essential Oils must always be diluted in a base oil, such as sweet almond oil or unperfumed moisturizers. If the skin is especially dry, a few drops of avocado oil may be incorporated to enrich the blend; if excessively oily, the more astringent grapeseed oil may be used. Facial unguents penetrate best if applied to a slightly damp face and neck using gentle upward strokes, with care taken not to drag or pull the skin, especially around the eyes.

Because of the delicacy of the skin on the face, Essential Oils are used more sparingly than on other areas of the body. The maximum number of drops for each Essential Oil is listed in the lists below, but the total number should not exceed 3 drops per 1 tablespoon of base oil. This provides roughly two weeks’ supply of unguent for the face and neck that, like all aromatic formulations, stay fresh and fragrant longest if stored in dark glass containers away from heat and light.
