Congestive heart failure occurs when the heart is not pumping blood as efficiently as it should and is not getting the required amount of blood to the organs in the body. Soon after the efficiency of the heart goes down the organs do not receive the right amount of oxygen and nutrients, and symptoms occur.
Symptoms of heart failure include:
Edema, irregular or rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, trouble concentrating, wheeze, nausea, coughing with phlegm that is white or tinged with blood, appetite loss or fluid retention that results in fast weight gain.
Symptoms are not always apparent while resting but will almost always show up during some type of exercise. Exercise tends to cause an individual to become fatigued and dizzy. The blood pressure goes down and the body attempts to make up for the lost blood volume by setting off hormone and nerve signals that are meant to increase blood volume by retaining water. We all may get a little heartburn from time to time but how do we know if what we are experiencing is something more serious, such as acid reflux?
One way is to learn the symptoms of acid reflux and then if you feel you may have acid reflux, speak with your doctor for a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Common symptoms of acid reflux:
Heartburn is a familiar symptom with those who suffer from acid reflux. Typically they experience a burning sensation that may move up from the stomach area to the chest and even into the throat (heartburn) after eating a big meal or a meal with lots of rich or spicy foods, or when they eat and then bend over, lift objects or children and/or if they lie down immediately after eating a big meal, especially if they lie down on their back. The majority of patients who report having heartburn say they have it at night. Commonly those who report nighttime acid reflux say the pain is so severe they are uncertain as to it being heartburn or chest pain as in angina or congestive heart failure. Read more...

The content of this article is not based on any wonderful scientific study but rather is written from a common sense point of view and personal experience.
What has prompted me to write it is the recent death of my sister who at 64 years of age was 2 years older than me.
I have always maintained that genetics are overrated when it comes to determining how long you will live and/or whether you will enjoy good health or not as you age. In fact, in previous articles I have been criticized when I have suggested that I think the influence that genetics have on your health is only about 10%. (specific genetic disorders excluded).
When I stated that figure I was referring to the normal things that people get ill and die from such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes etc. Read more...

L-arginine or arginine is an amino acid, one of the 20 most common natural amino acids required by humans to function optimally. Some qualified arginine as a nonessential amino acid while others believe it is a semi-essential amino acid. The differentiation revolves around whether or not the body can reduce the amino acid on its own in enough quantity to meet the needs of the body.
For instance, all essential amino acids are those which must be ingested through food or supplementation in order to meet the needs of the body while nonessential amino acids are actually produced with in the body from essential amino acids. A semi-essential amino acid such as arginine is primarily made in the body although supplementation is sometimes needed. For instance, people who suffer from protein malnutrition, excess ammonia production or excessive lysine intake or who may have burns, infections, rapid growth or sepsis will not have enough arginine to meet the body functions.
Individuals who are suffering from a deficiency in arginine will have poor wound healing, hair loss, skin rashes, constipation and may have a fatty liver. Read more...

Back pain is caused from a variety of problems including Acute Pulmonary Edema. Edema builds up abnormal and excessive fluids that cause serious actions to the tissue cells. What happens is similar to over watering plants. The plant will swell and gradually wither away.
Edema in acute stages is defined as heart failure to one side, yet the problem extends to cause pain in the back. What occurs is when the heart is interrupted; it channels the fluids to tubes, vessels, ducts, and passageways that extend to the lungs.
Causes of edema:
Edema may arise from inhaling smoke, MI, CHF, Myocarditis, excessive I.V. intakes of fluid, Valvular disease, overdose of drugs, such as morphine, barbiturates, and heroin. Acute edema arises from ARDS (Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome) and Atherosclerosis.
The lack of heart pumping can cause stress to the chest, which when the chest is scarred it affects the spines structure and mobility. Overarching the back is where back pain starts, since the chest is restricted from scarring and/or edema. Read more...

We are all exposed to thousands of different toxins and chemicals in our daily lives. From work, to home, to the air we breathe and the foods we eat everything is infused with processing, chemicals and toxins which arent well tested for use in humans. U.S. industries manufacture over 6 trillion pounds of 9,000 different chemicals each and every year. Billions of pounds of chemicals are dumped into the air and water each year and now scientists are finding pollution levels in human tissue that are deeply disturbing.
All of this research has documented that the human body isnt able to eliminate all of the toxins to which we are exposed. The accumulation happens in fat cells, tissues, blood and organs causing all kinds of health problems. Proponents of colon cleansing and body detoxifications believe that there are a few things we can do to eliminate some of the toxins and help our bodies to function more efficiently. Read more...

Athletes to participate in all different kinds of sports are interested in including endurance training. This is because endurance training is designed to develop energy production systems to meet the demands of any events the athlete undertakes.
Endurance training is actually a very broad and sweeping term that is often used interchangeably with other terms such as “aerobic”, “anaerobic”, and “strength”. But, for the most part people mean aerobic endurance conditioning when they refer to endurance training.
Aerobic actually means working “with oxygen”. During aerobic work the body is working at a level that the demands for oxygen and fuel can be met by what is being taken in through the lungs. The only waste products that are formed are carbon dioxide and water which are removed as sweat and through exhalation. Anaerobic activity means working “without oxygen”. During this activity the body is working at a level that demands higher amounts of oxygen and fuel than can be met by what is coming in to the body. An athlete can work at an anaerobic levels for only short periods of time. Read more...

Alcoholism is a disease in which an individual has the inability to control the strong craving for alcohol. Individual who suffer from alcoholism often need the aid of alcohol in order to feel “normal”. They crave alcohol much like any other drug addict craves a “fix”. The cravings can be so severe that the individual can feel as if the need for alcohol is greater than the need for food or for water. It may become so severe that they feel that they cannot go a day without consuming alcohol.
The Character of alcoholism:
The disease alcoholism is not characterized by the type of alcohol or even by the amount of alcohol that is consumed by the individual but rather by the need to satisfy the craving for alcohol. It is characterized by the loss of control that is felt by the individual when the craving for alcohol is not satisfied. Alcoholics (individuals who suffer from alcoholism) often build up a tolerance to alcohol over time so that they need more and more alcohol in order to feel “normal”. They thus consume more and more alcohol, and this is what puts the individual at risk for serious health problems. There is also a psychological manifestation of the illness (alcoholism) as well as the physical symptoms of the disease. Read more...
