Weight Loss Clinics

Mar 8th, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Beauty & Personal Care

Obesity and weight gain are an ever-expanding problem for people today. The standard Western consists of too much protein, fats and sugars and not enough fresh fruits and vegetables. Most people also understand that in order to lose weight effectively and keep it off for life they must use healthy methods, which includes burning calories through exercise programs.

Weight loss clinics are a wonderful experience for people who want to have a relaxing holiday and learn healthy eating and exercise patterns at the same time. Weight loss clinics often focus on physical health and education about eating habits and making life long changes.

When people arrive at a weight loss clinic they will undergo an evaluation with a counselor who evaluates their previous eating and exercise habits and looks at the necessary measures that should be taken. The counselor will take the clients family history, body type and other medical issues into account as well as help the client to establish reasonable goals to decrease the possibility of failure.

When to Incorporate Fasting Into a Nutritional Plan

Jan 22nd, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Diet & Weight Loss, Featured Articles

We all have memories of how we looked and felt when we were younger. It’s sometimes hard to get those memories out of our minds or be satisfied with our current level of fitness, age, beauty or size. We make legitimate efforts to lose weight or to improve our health and eating habits.

And with all of the information that is available today it is sometimes difficult to figure out what supplements to integrate, how many multi-vitamins you should be taking, the number of hours of sleep or how much exercise you really need.

Another one of those factors that plays a part in a healthy diet is fasting. In most cases people don’t think of fasting as part of a healthy eating plan but instead as part of a radical diet designed to lose 20 pounds in 2 days. However, because of the way in which our bodies were designed, an occasional fast is actually good for the body and works with the way in which the body functions.

Dieting and Weight Loss

Jan 5th, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Diet & Weight Loss

Dieting is a term that became popular around the time that women decided that thin was “in”. For the most part it was heralded by the Twiggy craze but more likely had been a significant concern since dresses began to rise above the ankles.

But dieting isn’t always equated with weight loss, nor should it be. Dieting is a term that conjures up images of men and women (but mostly women) who are denying themselves the pleasures of chocolate, bread, butter, dessert, soda, alcohol and any food that remotely carries more than 10 calories.

Dieting is really a lifestyle choice. It is a time when people feel they should be denied something of pleasure in exchange for fitting into the next dress size down. But it is NOT a long term option for either weight loss or overall health.

It may seem like splitting hairs but as humans we all respond best to what we interpret as “best”. Because of the connotation that ‘dieting‘ has developed over the past several decades it is much better for those who wish to lose several pounds to consider a nutritional change that results in healthier eating habits.

Why We Shouldn’t Skip Breakfast

Dec 17th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Featured Articles, Nutrition

don't skip breakfastIt has been said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, that is true for many reasons. But, still, so many people skip breakfast. Is it helping or hurting our health?

In a word, yes – skipping breakfast is hurting our health. Dieticians have been saying it for years now and some of us still aren’t getting it. Leaving this meal in favor of a cup of coffee is not going to help you stay true to a healthy eating plan during the day.

Think about your body. You have slept all night. If you were awake, would you go six, seven or even eight hours without food? Of course you wouldn’t. When you skip breakfast you are going almost half a day before you have your first meal. Your body is starved for nutrition.

Here are the drawbacks to leaving the house without something to eat:

* Loss of energy. You just woke up so you are already feeling a little low. But, without any fuel to get that engine going again, you won’t regain the energy you need to start the day.

Are Natural Skin Care Products the Answer to All Problems?

Oct 12th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Beauty & Personal Care

When it comes to skin care products, you will find that a lot of people are very particular about using only natural skin care products. They treat all the synthetic products as harmful to the skin.

So, are natural skin care products the answer to all of our problems? What if a natural skin care product is not available for the treatment of a particular skin disorder? Are the synthetic skin care products so harmful that they should be banned?

Different people have different answers to these questions. However, the reality is that due to presence of synthetic preservatives, it’s really tough to find a natural skin care product that is 100% natural. There are natural skin care products that have natural preservatives, but their cost might be detrimental. Moreover, such natural skin products have a shorter shelf life and hence are not preferred by the manufacturers of natural skin care products.

Thirteen-year-old Justin Gellman, along with his buddies, Jake Bensky, Michael Wienlansky, Brian Coulter and Jake Brown have made it their mission to support and raise awareness for a local organization called Lift For Life.

According to Justin, it only took one visit to the Lift For Life facility to know that this was the charity that he and his friends should support for their Bar Mitzvah. “Once I visited the amazing facility I immediately knew that this was going to be the charity I was going to help for my bar mitzvah,” Justin said.

Justin says that participating in an endeavor to benefit his community for Bar/Bat Mitzvah means that he’s helping to give back to his community “not just by donating money, but by giving my time to make others feel good.”

But why did Justin and his friends choose Lift For Life?

Antiaging Skin Care

Oct 11th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Beauty & Personal Care

‘Antiaging skin care’ is a very poplar concept in today’s world. Today everyone wants to hide their age using antiaging skin care procedures (and a number of people are successful too). However antiaging skin care is not achieved by any magic potion. ‘Antiaging skin care’ is about discipline. It is about being proactive. Antiaging skin care is retarding the ageing process. Here are a few tips for proactive antiaging skin care:

1. Maintain healthy eating habits: A well balanced diet is the key to maintaining a proper body metabolism. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables (raw), they are the best source of fibre and have a very refreshing effect on your body. Avoid oily and fatty food; not only do they lack in essential nutrients but also cause obesity and other diseases which aid the aging process

2. Beat stress: This is probably the most important antiaging skin care measure. Stress disturbs the body metabolism and accelerates the aging process. Sleep, exercise and a relaxing bath, are all good ways of beating stress. Aroma-therapy is also known to bust stress.

Anti Aging Skin Care Products

Oct 10th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Beauty & Personal Care

Anti aging skin care products remind me of the song ’18 till I die’. Indeed, anti aging skin care products are very popular today; and why not, who doesn’t want to look young for ever?

Talking of anti aging skin care products, the first thing that comes to mind is vitamin C based anti aging skin care products. These products work by enabling the synthesis of collagen (a structural protein that is found in skin). This category of anti aging skin care products is related to anti-oxidants. Anti aging skin care products that are based on vitamin C are, however, posed with the danger of getting oxidised themselves (as they come into contact with air during their usage). So some anti aging skin care products are based on the derivatives of vitamin C, which are more stable and less expensive. However, the effectiveness of such anti aging skin care is not as much as it is for vitamin C based ant aging skin care products.

How Are Men and Boys Affected by Eating Disorders?

Sep 21st, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Eating Disorders, Featured Articles, Men's Health

When you think of eating disorders, you think of Karen Carpenter or one of Hollywood’s young starlets. But, these disorders don’t just affect girls and women. Men and boys can be just as affected by them.

Eating disorders are not new and neither is their existence in the male population. The reason you may not have heard about it is the stigma attached to having a problem controlling your food. According to a Harvard study (2007), as much as 25 percent of those in the study were anorexic males and 40 percent were binge-eating males. For a condition that has been decidedly “female” these are high numbers.

The effects of eating disorders are more readily noticed among girls. Wearing tight-fitting clothing or other outfits that show their shape reveal the skin and bones that mortify parents and friends. Girls are also more likely to confide in a friend about their “new diet” than guys are.

Raw Food: Your Key to Health

Aug 8th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Nutrition

What do you eat more of – raw foods or processed foods? If you have a hectic schedule, fast foods may fit into your plan but they are not the healthiest for your body. Find out the benefits of eating raw foods and how to fit them into your lifestyle.

What is it about raw foods that have people gravitating towards them? Raw foods were meant to be digested by your body. Processed foods came along as a way of preserving meats and other perishables. The refrigerator used to be called an ice box because it really was a box of ice that kept fresh meats and other foods cold until ready to eat. Salting and sugaring came into use as preservatives in lieu of using the ice box.

Raw foods are edible in their natural state. A little washing gets the dirt off but otherwise they can be eaten fresh out of the garden. Think of tomatoes, strawberries, green beans, cantaloupe and other foods. When eaten fresh, all of the nutrients inside are transferred to your body where they can be used.
