Balding for Babies (With Cancer)

Oct 28th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Everyday Heroes, Healing Our World

St. Baldricks fundraising for childhood cancerIt is true that this world is full of suffering, disease and pain – but mingled in the midst of the darkness are points of light which shine very brightly. Kristen is one of these lights. In order to raise money for children with cancer, Kristen will be shaving her head on March 20, 2010. In this  ‘Appearance is Everything’ culture where women spend *billions* on beauty products, this courageous lady will  shear her locks to help raise money to save a child. Read her story and then make a donation – even $1 will help fund the research to save the lives of thousands of little ones who are battling this deadly disease. ~Dee

In Kristen’s own words…

Kirsten will be shaving her head to raise money for kids with cancerI can’t imagine watching one of my four children dying. Even worse, I can’t imagine watching them suffer before they passed away.  I can’t fathom watching one of my sons or daughters lying in a bed…unable to move…spitting up blood and screaming in pain.  I don’t think any parent can .

Hair Vitamins

Sep 20th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Beauty & Personal Care

Both men and women can develop complaints of fitting, we hair, especially as they grow older. Healthy, strong and thick hair is not only something that is pleasing to the person who have it but also friends and relatives.

Many of the metabolic requirements which produce any single healthy hair must be met or optimal growth will not happen. A single hair follicle on the scalp will produce approximately 0.35 mm of hair per day. This equates to 10 1/2 millimeters of hair growth every month or approximately a little less than one half an inch of hair growth every month.

Many people are interested in how to get their hair to grow faster because of an upcoming events such as a wedding or the prom. Some are interested in even growing their hair from short to long in just a matter of weeks. Unfortunately, there is no instant way to grow hair no matter what anyone tells you. What you can do instead, is to improve the strength, quality and health of the hair so that it appears more healthy and is more beautiful as well.

Hair Care and Aging

Sep 20th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Beauty & Personal Care

As each of us grows older so does our hair and nails. The most obvious sign of aging in the hair is a change in the color. This is because there is less melanin produced in the hair follicles colored new hair the older we got. This is the same melanin that gives our skin its color and causes the hair to become gray. But, aging will affect our hair in other ways as well.

Here is the proteins strand that grows through an open follicle in the skin. A single hair has a normal life span of four to five years and then falls out which is replaced with the new hair. How much hair on the body and head is determined by your genes what almost everyone experiences loss with aging. Not only that but the hair strand becomes smaller and have less pigments and as well as many hair follicles just stop producing new pairs altogether.

Aug 29th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Aromatherapy

Hair Growth. A subject that is near and dear to the hearts of many. If youve never been one with fine hair or watched your once thick tresses dwindle in number you may never understand the feelings of dread and frustration that can accompany the loss of your hair.

Growing up my mom always told me A womans hair is her shining glory and its stuck with me all these years. She was just trying to get me past that pre- teen I-dont-need-to-wash-my-hair-its-only-been- a-week-or-so phase but even now, all these years later its something that rings in my ears each time I break out the shampoo (thankfully, its now more than once a week!).

While bald can certainly be beautiful, not all of us are ready, willing nor do we want to show off our shiny pates! For those of us who are desperately clinging to the hairs we still have left on our heads and would like to encourage more to stick around for a longer period of time, this months recipes have been created.
