Attack Your Backache at the Source

Jan 17th, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Joints, Bones & Muscles, Pain Management

Backaches are very common and are best described as pain in the lower back that is either severe or minor. The lower part of the back has to work really hard because it is responsible for carrying both the weight of your upper body and the rest of your weight. Many things can cause a backache including: a tumor, injury, aging or a disease. Backaches can become worse when bending forward or trying to lift an object.

A backache can carry over to pain in the legs in older people. This is in part due to the added pressure that is put onto the nerves in the spine. Most backaches can be described as either acute or chronic. An acute backache comes out of nowhere and is often incredibly painful. A chronic backache can be caused by just about anything and often sticks around for months at a time.

Backache – Backache Treatment, Herbs and Ayurvedic Remedies and Backache Symptom

Jan 10th, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Joints, Bones & Muscles

Backache is medically known as lumbago. It is the disease which afflicts any region of the vertebral column or the associated muscles. Each of the 32 vertebrae can develop sudden pains which could become a chronic condition. Though we use the term backache in general, actually it is a collection of various types of pains of the vertebral column.

People find these kinds of pains to be more common as they grow older. Though there are no gender specifics, lumbago may be a bit more in men than in women.

In Ayurveda, backache is called as Nithamba Shoola. Ayurveda treats this pain as a vata disorder, which causes both the types of weaknesses, i.e. the bone weakness and the muscle weakness. Hence when deciding on a proper treatment pattern for backache, one needs to consider the vitiation of the vata dosha.

Let us see some of the common treatment patterns used in Ayurveda for the treatment of lumbago.

What Causes Back Pain?

Jan 6th, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Joints, Bones & Muscles

Back pain is a common problem affecting literally millions of people. It can range from minor, temporary pain, to sustained pain in different parts of the back, neck or shoulders or involve the pinching of nerves, affecting the legs or arms.   The causes of back pain vary and can often be a combination of factors. Some of the factors identified by practitioners are set out below.

Sprains and strains An out-of-condition back or one with pre-existing problems is more vulnerable to soft tissue injuries like sprains and strains. A sprain isa joint injury that involves stretching or tearing of the ligaments. A strainisan injury to muscle or tendons. Stretching a ligament or muscle too quickly can result in a tear. Excessive force and certain repetitive use may also damage muscles.

Disc problems The intervertebral discs are the cushions between our vertebrae. These discs dry out and harden with age, making them susceptible to injury. Common disc complaints involve the disc bulging (prolapse), herniating or even rupturing.

Reflexology Research

Sep 2nd, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Reflexology

Reflexology is the practice of strategically applying pressure to areas of the feet and hands!

Many studies have been done in relation to the effectiveness of reflexology. If you are unfamiliar with reflexology, here are the basics. Reflexology is the practice of strategically applying pressure to areas of the feet and hands as they correspond with specific body organs. By stimulating nerves on specific areas of the f

eet and hands, we can stimulate blood flow and eliminate toxin buildup in the corresponding organs and systems of the body. Reflexology is safe and effective for everyone. Furthermore, it can and should be used throughout a lifetime.

So how can reflexology really help you? Research has found that not only is it beneficial as a tool for relaxation and stress relief, but it is also an effective tool for improving circulation; relieving pain, detoxification, recovering from surgery, and as an immune and nervous system stimulator. In fact, many people with illnesses such as allergies; chronic sinus problems; acid reflux; migraines; PMS; menopause; insomnia; fertility problems and even arthritis have been helped tremendously by reflexology treatments.

Reflexology and Maternity Reflexology

Aug 31st, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Reflexology

Reflexology is the technique of applying gentle pressure to reflex points on the feet (or hands) to bring about a state of deep relaxation, stimulate the bodys own healing process, and help a person return to a state of balance and well-being.

It is holistic complementary therapy that aims to release blockages and improve the flow of energy in the body by working through body zones (rather like the meridians an acupuncturist or shiatsu practitioner works on). Reflexology has roots in Ancient Egypt, China, Japan and India.

Reflexology can provide relaxation, pain and Stress relief, stimulation of all body systems eg the immune and digestive systems, and balance for the mind, body, emotions and spirit. Most people find Reflexology an enormously comforting and nurturing therapy.

In general, Reflexology has been shown to help relieve a whole host of ailments, including:

* Digestive disorders eg Constipation, Heartburn

* Migraines and Headaches

* Stress and anxiety

* Sleep problems

* PMS and hormone related problems

* Back and joint pain

Results of Stress

Aug 27th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Mind & Spirit

Stress reeks havoc on our health systems. From the immune system to blood sugar and the cardiovascular system. In fact, the effects of stress are so pervasive that researchers and doctors are still not able to definitively produce an exhaustive list of everything that could go wrong in the human body. This means that stress can produce results that doctors still don’t know about.

Stress can be defined as those aggravating things that go wrong during the day or those irritating things that go bump in the night. Anything that interrupts your daily routine or nightly sleep can have a cumulative effects on the body and brain. Researchers have found that a chronic overreaction to Strauss will overload the brain with hormones intended for only short term used in emergency situations. This cumulative of fact will damage and killed brain cells in the long run.

Back Pain and Diagnosis

Aug 21st, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Pain Management

Did you know that many doctors miss areas of concern that could lead to cures? Did you know that back pain is common, yet many doctors fail to see the cause? The answer is simple. The reason is most medical doctors have little experience in the system of healing so to speak. Rather many doctors focus on prescribing medicines and searching for answers, which many times rest in front of them.

Dont get me wrong, good doctors reach everywhere, yet these people lack educational knowledge of the spinal column, central nervous system and so on. As well, these people fail to see that many causes of back pain rests in misaligned bones, or spine. Of course, diseases may cause back pain as well. Sitting too long, lack of stretch exercises, etc, all cause lower back pain.
