Bulimic Eating Disorder

Feb 28th, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Eating Disorders, Featured Articles

I created this movie in order to emphasis the hardships that one must overcome if they are a sufferer of bulimia.

Of the binge eating disorder treatment options available, natural remedies can be of great benefit in alleviating symptoms of anxiety and depression associated with Bulimia without the negative side effects of prescription medications. Some herbal formulas that assist with the related symptoms of Bulimia include Passiflora Incarnata – to soothe the mind and calm the nerves. Hypericum perforatum (St John’s Wort) has been very successful in treating the depression which often accompanies an eating disorder.

Natural remedies such as MindSoothe may facilitate a reasonable attitude and lessen the burden on pressured minds. MindSoothe may also promote a well-adjusted outlook and positive temperament and support healthy sleep patterns and routine appetite.

Fibromyalgia Often Unspotted During Pregnancy

Feb 27th, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Nervous System

Fibromyalgia is a serious disorder of suspected neurological origin manifested by intense, recidivating muscular pain, joint stiffness, pronounced sate of generalized fatigue, sleep disturbances, anxiety, irritability, increased sensitivity to external stimuli and depression. At present, the exact causes and risk factors of the disease are unknown, fibromyalgia still being regarded as an enigma among the medical community.

There is no specific cure for fibromyalgia and the treatments available today are only partially efficient in slowing down the progression of the disease and alleviating its generated symptoms. In addition, due to the lack of conclusive medical data on fibromyalgia and the deceiving character of the symptoms it produces (the symptoms of fibromyalgia have an unspecific, general character, being also produced by a variety of other diseases that aren’t related to fibromyalgia), the disease can be very difficult to diagnose properly. In persons with special conditions (existing or past neuropsychological diseases, pregnant women, etc.), fibromyalgia is even more difficult to diagnose accurately and more important, timely.

Catnip

Jan 23rd, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Herbs for Health

Catnip” is the common name for a perennial herb of the mint family. Catnip is native to Europe and is imported into the United States. In North America it is a common widespread weed. Catnip is most popular with cats and the reaction that it causes in them when they receive some dried nip from their owner. They roll around in it in all of their glory. The fact is that humans do not smell what cats smell when it comes to catnip so humans do not react the same way that cats do. It is known that the chemical nepetalactone in catnip is the thing that triggers the response. Apparently, it somehow kicks off a stereotypical pattern in cats that are sensitive to the chemical.

Basil

Jan 2nd, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Herbs for Health

Originally, Basil was not the most popular herb in the bunch. Actually there were some who simply hated it, mainly the ancient people. The name basil means “be fragrant” but still various cultures battled with a love hate relationship over basil. Americans and Romans loved it while Hindus plant it in their homes as a sign of happiness. On the contrary it was the Greeks who despised it most but those from India and Persia were not too fond of it either. One place that took a special liking to Basil was Italy and to this day not many people prepare a classic pasta sauce without the Basil.

To this day basil and tomato sauce have formed somewhat of a marriage almost globally. Basil is very easy to grow as long as the temperature does not fall below 50 degrees and is in full sunshine. It is popularly used both in the fresh form as well as the dried. A rare known fact about Basil is that the longer it simmers in a dish the more the flavor intensifies. This makes sense as to why people simmer their pasta sauces for so long, to bring out all of the rich herb flavors. Normally in pasta sauces Basil is used in combination with Oregano. However, Basil is not just used for pasta or tomato sauce, it is also used for flavoring fish, vegetables, meats, and soups.

Learning About Trace Minerals

Jan 1st, 2010 | By Dee | Category: Featured Articles, Nutrition

trace mineralsDid you know there are 92 elements found in nature and an additional 22 which are observed elements or scientists believe exists but have not been able to prove.

In addition to all of those there are also hundreds of isotopes of those elements, any one of which can play an important role in human health which has yet to of been discovered.

In these numerous elements are trace minerals which are called this because they are required in such a very small amounts.

And, while scientists and doctors believe they have identified many of the trace minerals required by the body for optimal health, they are required in such minute amounts and there are so many different trace elements that may be necessary, it is highly unlikely that physicians and scientists have identified all of them.

The Link Between Fibromyalgia and Migraines

Dec 31st, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Pain Management

There are an estimated 10 million Americans who suffer from fibromyalgia and in the range of up to 20% of those who seek the advice of a rheumatologist suffer from fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a condition that involves painful muscles, ligaments and tendons. While it isn’t disfiguring or life-threatening it does create life altering pain and discomfort for the individual who suffers from it.

Similar to migraine headaches, fibromyalgia affects mostly women who were middle-aged and less often affects children and the elderly. The pain can occur in four or more distinct areas of the body and are related to “trigger points“. These trigger points or tender points can affect pain and muscle thousands when pressure is applied and are definitive diagnostic tools. Trigger points are often found in the elbows, shoulders, back and ahead, knees and the sides of the breastbone.

The Mineral Magnesium

Dec 30th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Nutrition

Magnesium is a magnificent mineral. It is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and essential to good health for each and every one of us. Interestingly, approximately 50% of the magnesium stored in our body can be found in the bone. The other half is found inside of the cells of our body tissue and organs and only 1% is found in the blood. But, although the amount found in the blood is so small, the body works very hard to keep this number constant.

Magnesium is a mineral found in all unprocessed foods. There is a high concentration in unmilled grain, dark leafy vegetables, fruit, nuts and legumes. Although there is an abundance in whole foods, because of the standard Western diet and potential malabsorption issues many people can create a situation where they don’t receive enough magnesium to support optimal health.

Thyroid Disease and Menopause

Dec 25th, 2009 | By Dee | Category: Thyroid Health, Women's Health

According to the American Academy of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) an estimated 50 million women will have reached menopause by the end of the year. And, because thyroid disease and menopause often create the same symptoms the disease can often go undetected or may worsen when the woman approaches menopause because of the hormonal shifts that happen in the body.

According to the AACE millions of women suffer from a variety of unresolved symptoms that are thought to be menopause related but may have undiagnosed thyroid disease. Both conditions often develop in the same general age range and share symptoms of fatigue, mood swings, depression and sleep disturbances. Other symptoms that are similar are hair loss, change in hair texture, increased anxiety, heart palpitations, and skin changes.

Estimations are that by age 50 one out of every 10 to 12 women will have some degree of hypothyroidism and by age 60 that number jumps to one out of five or six. Many women also confuse the symptoms of thyroid disease with menopause and don’t think of seeking the care and advice of their physician.
