Category: Reflexology Bring your body to a state of well-being!
Although reflexology is proven to be beneficial for a multitude of problems, your reflexologist cannot diagnose or claim to cure any diseases. They are not medically trained to do so. The practice of reflexology is meant to bring your body to a state of well-being. Only in this state is your body able to heal itself and perform at an optimal level. If your body is full of toxins, your immune system is severely compromised, making you much more likely to succumb to sickness and disease.
Once you have made the decision to visit a trained reflexologist, you may be wondering what you can expect from him or her. You may also be asking yourself, what if I am embarrassed about my feet, or my feet are ticklish, how will I be able to handle the therapy? All of these are viable questions. Read more...

Pain is a massive problem in our society, in fact it is estimated that at any given time, around one third of the population are in pain. Pain of any type is the most frequent reason for physician consultation. It is a major symptom in many medical conditions, significantly interfering with quality of life and general functioning.
Pain management is therefore an extremely important part of health care because people forced to continue living with extreme pain often become depressed and have poor treatment outcomes.
Some types of pain are still not really understood with as many as a third of cases having unknown origins.
Here are some of the things we do know:
* Pain is constant for about 20% of people.
* Back pain is the most common pain.
* Most chronic pain sufferers have had pain for at least 3 years.
* As can be expected, the incidence of pain increases with advancing age.
* Women report pain more often than men. Read more...

Category: Energy & Fatigue There is significant concern about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, also known as CFS. In fact, there are criteria patients must meet in order to be diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Receiving the diagnosis may be difficult for some patients because the guidelines for diagnosing are very specific.
The fatigue must have been present at least six consecutive months and the corresponding symptoms must have developed after the fatigue. A clear definition of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, its symptoms, and treatment options will help sufferers get a clearer understanding of the syndrome.
What is Chronic Fatigue?
The basic definition of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome does not make sufferers feel much better. The syndrome is unexplained and is marked by weakness, fatigue, muscle pain, lethargy, trouble sleeping, and even fever and swollen lymph nodes. There is no known cause for the fatigue that is present in an individual that has no relation to over-exertion and is not rectified by rest.

Category: Mental & Emotional Health Clinical depression is defined as ‘a persistent exaggeration of the everyday feelings that accompany sadness‘.
If you have severe depression you may experience low mood, loss of interest and pleasure as well as feelings of worthlessness and guilt. You may also experience tearfulness, poor concentration, reduced energy, reduced or increased appetite and weight, sleep problems and anxiety. You may even feel that life is not worth living, and plan or attempt suicide.
Depression can affect anyone, of any culture, age or background. About twice as many women as men seek help for depression, though this may reflect the greater readiness of women to discuss their problems.
One thing that may make it hard for doctors to recognise depression is that people with depression often complain of physical problems, commonly headaches, lethargy, stomach upsets or joint pains, rather than low mood, sometimes because these can be significant symptoms, but sometimes because they find it difficult to admit to feeling emotionally distressed for reasons they may not even be able to identify. Fibromyalgia is a chronic medical condition that was once thought to be purely psychological in nature. Today physicians know that has a basis in the physical that is exacerbated by psychological stress. It is characterized by wide spread pain in the ligaments and tendons. Fibromyalgia also causes fatigue and multiple tender points. These are places on the body where even a slight amount of pressure will cause pain.
There are 18 different sites used for fibromyalgia diagnosis which are considered tender points. These sites cluster around the neck, shoulder, chest, hip, knee and elbow regions. During an examination the physician applies as much pressure as what would be required to cause a finger nail bed to blanch, or start to become white. Others have found over 75 different tender points but these are not used for diagnostic purposes. They do however cause individuals pain and discomfort. Read more...

Category: Child Health Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) can affect anyone at any time. It usually occurs in adulthood but children are not immune. If your child has been diagnosed with this disease, there are ways that you can help.
The cause of CFS is unknown. Researchers have speculated that it could be the result of a viral or bacterial infection or other illness but there is as yet no proof. For now, doctors are dealing with the symptoms.
Children have also been affected by chronic fatigue syndrome. Because of the developmental stages of children and their unpredictability, it takes a watchful parent to notice that something is wrong. The symptoms of the disease include:
* Pain in the joints
* Tiredness that persists for more than 24 hours
* Headaches
* Problems concentrating
* Sore throat
* Lymph node tenderness in armpits and neck
* Chills
* Diarrhea
* Appetite and weight changes
* Mild fever Read more...

There is a type of yeast that is sometimes found living naturally in our bodies, called Candida (or Candida albicans). It is classified in the same group as molds, fungus and mildew.
Candida successfully thrives in moist areas of the body that are hidden from the sunlight such as the mouth, in between folds of skin, ears, groin, under fingernails, underneath teeth and in the vagina.
Candida is not normally a problem when we take care of ourselves properly. It is capable of living in balance with our bodies. It is very important to prevent Candida overgrowth because once it becomes a problem it can recur and is hard to treat with conventional medicine.
There are several symptoms to be on the lookout for: Depression, fatigue, trouble thinking straight, bloating in the stomach area, changes in menstrual cycle, constipation, headaches, diarrhea and skin infection. Nobody is immune to Candida. It can occur in men, women and children but is most common in babies and those with a compromised immune system. Read more...

A Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) occurs when bacteria enters the bladder. It makes it’s way there through the urethra and there is a chance that it will multiply once it gets to the bladder. UTI’s are also known as cystitis or a bladder infection.
A UTI can be extremely uncomfortable but they are easy to treat. The most common cause of a bladder infection is the E. Coli bacterium.
Bladder infection’s usually fall under two categories. Either your lower tract or upper tract can become infected. A lower tract infection takes place in the urethra and sometimes the bladder. The second type of infection, upper tract, is more serious. An upper tract infection involves bacteria attacking the kidneys. The bacteria comes from the blood or travels up through the bladder to the kidneys. Another name for a kidney infection is pyelonephritis.
There are many symptoms that will alert you that a UTI is present: A need to urinate with no warning, urinating more often than normal, pain during urination, abnormal looking or smelling urine, lower back pain, pain in the abdominal area or a fever. Read more...

Category: Pain Management According to the National Headache Foundation slightly less than 30 million Americans have symptoms of migraines. Symptoms of migraines can include moderate to severe pain on one or both sides the head, throbbing or pulsating pain that worsens with physical activity and causes a sensitivity to light or sound. Individuals can also experience nausea with or without vomiting. About 20% of people who experienced migraines will also have an aura prior to the migraine. These are visual disturbances which include flashes of light, blind spots in the vision or tingling in one arm or leg.
If you are currently using preventative medication to decrease the number of migraines you may experience or are using abortive medications which will stop a migraine before it progresses too far or are you saying pain relief whether over-the-counter or prescription you must first speak to your primary care physician and pharmacists prior to introducing any other medications or herbal supplements to the regimen. This is because herbal supplementation is actually a form of medication that will have drug interactions with the medications you’re already taking. Read more...

Category: Reflexology Reflexology and Color Therapy have their roots in the distant past. As individual therapies, they have tremendous therapeutic value. When used in conjunction with each other, they have shown their ability to both complement each other and accentuate the healing process.
The origin of Reflexology, or zone therapy as it was called, still remains a mystery. One theory, mentioned by Dr. Fitzgerald, in his book Zone Therapy, is that it originated from China some 5,000 years ago as a form of Pressure Point treatment. Dr. Fitzgerald was an ear, nose and throat specialist, and must be credited for his part in reviving Reflexology.
Another conjecture is that it began in Egypt. Evidence for this stems from an Egyptian tomb drawing dating back to 230BC. This drawing depicts four people. One person is being treated with foot massage and a second person with hand massage. Others credit its birth to the Incas. These were people of very ancient Peruvian civilisation, possibly reaching back to 1200BC. It is speculated that they passed their knowledge of zone therapy down to the North American Indians who, up to this present time, are still using this form of treatment. Read more...

Category: Reflexology What Is Reflexology?
Reflexology is the science or method of stimulating reflexes of the foot, hand or ear that correspond to each gland, organ and part of the body. Stimulation of these reflexes serves to relax and normalize all functions of the body in order to promote a natural balance and revitalization. In ancient times, walking barefoot over rocks and hard ground naturally stimulated these reflexes every day.
By applying pressure on specific areas of the feet or hands, a reflexologist can stimulate corresponding organs or glands. For instance, pressure is applied to the big toe to affect the pituitary gland and the four other toes are stimulated to affect to the brain, sinuses, eyes and ears. Because internal organs like the lungs and the Kidneys can not be directly massaged, reflexologists believe that the feet, hands, and ears are an appropriate alternative.

Category: Reflexology Acupressure and acupuncture are not one in same techniques. They differ slightly because acupuncture makes use of thin needles in approaching health concerns while Acupressure never breaks the skin. On the other hand, they do a have a few things in common. For instance, both are centered on touching meridians which carry energy or chi along those meridians right through an individuals’ body.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clearly states that illness occurs due to the blockage of chi in any of fourteen different meridians. Acupressure and acupuncture both advocate the free flow of energy without obstructions. Both methods are used to treat Arthritis, Allergies, Migraine Headaches, depression, menstrual cramps, nausea and anxieties.
Because acupuncture uses very thin, long needles to puncture the skin it should be performed by an experienced practitioner who is skilled in traditional Chinese medicine. Acupressure is much less technical; it can therefore be learned from a book and may even be; in some instances, performed on oneself. Somewhat surprisingly, Acupressure was practiced long before acupuncture became known. Read more...

Category: Reflexology For the Reflexologist, the feet are a microcosm of the human body and every organ and body part is represented in the feet. Where there are two organs in the body they will be represented on both feet, e.g. lungs and kidney and where there is only one organ, this will be represented on one foot, e.g. the liver will be on the right foot while the heart will be on the left. Where the organ or body part is reflected in the feet, this is called the “organ” reflex, e.g. the heart reflex.
The right foot represents the right side of the body as well as the past while the left foot represents the left side of the body as well as the present and future.
Each foot has over 7,000 nerve endings, 26 bones, 107 ligaments and 19 muscles. This type of drugless therapy creates a physiological change in the body by naturally improving your Circulation, which reduces our body Tension and enhances relaxation. It aids in the elimination of the body waste and restoring the body functions to better health. Read more...

Category: Pain Management When back pain occurs, the process of consideration must start. Back pain can emerge from various causes, yet when the pain is severe, one should seek medical advice immediately. When injuries occur and the back delivers messages that signal us that a problem exists, one must also seek medical advice. Injuries often cause neurological conditions.
When to visit your doctor:
If you are in an accident or fall and cause injury, seek medical assistance instantly. Delaying the problem can lead to further complications. If you lift a heavy object and your back starts to ache, seek help. If the muscles in your legs cannot provide you support and stability to stand erect on your toes, seek help. If slapping of your feet start when you begin walking, you will need medical support also. At the lower trunk, legs, and back, if you feel weakness, tingling, or numbness you will need medical assistance. During sleep hours if your back gives you problems, you endure fevers, and if you experience chills, seek help. If you loose control of your bladder and bowels, medical treatment is needed. Category: Pain Management Did you know when pain acts out that your backers will kick in? The backers are your emotions. The devilish radicals of our human makeup can lead us to consequences we ordinarily would not accept. Sometimes the radicals are angels that work as guiders to back our every step.
Back pain and emotions go hand in hand, since when one experiences pain it causes threat to the emotions. When the emotions are threatened, Look out Henry, John Doe is in the house. Back pain has symptoms, which include depression, irritation and hopelessness, which starts with back pain and ends with emotions. The person will often accept the proposal that the emotions deliver, leaving them to believe that no help is present. In most back pain instances however, help is sitting in front of you.
The rule of thumb is to listen, learn, and take action. When you learn all you can about your condition, you can move to accept its symptoms and take action to resolve your problem. In fact, the information you gain can work in your favor, since you may learn strategies that relieve your pain without costing you a fortune. Read more...
