Fill a 2 fluid ounce (60 ml) spray bottle with purified water, and add the essential oils. Tighten the cap, shake well, and spray the mist into the air. With every 2-3 sprays, stop and inhale deeply. Close your eyes to avoid any eye irritation.
2 parts Elderflowers, 1 part Ephedra, 1 part Eyebright, 1 part Goldenseal. Mix all herbs together. use 1 teaspoon per cup of boiling water, let steep 10 minutes. Drink 1 cup up to 3 times a day.
You can put this Aromatherapy home recipes in the linen and clothes closets and dresser drawers.
Makes about 21/2 quarts
Use this blend in drawers and closets, particularly where woolens and furs are stored. The bulk herbs absorb the oils and help fix and marry the fragrances. Sandalwood is one of my favorite fixatives, but because it is fairly expensive, I often substitute oakmoss (a lichen), patchouli, cedar, vetiver, frankincense, or myrrh.
Whichever herbs you choose, dry them completely, then chop or crush them finely or powder them before blending.
In a large glass or stainless-steel bowl, mix together the lavender, peppermint, rosemary, patchouli, cloves, and thyme. Add the oils and stir well. Place the mix in a glass jar, cover, and age in a cool, dry, dark place for several weeks. Make sachets and fill with the herb blend.
Block cracks & points of entry with caulk. Try to water a little more outside – ants come in when they are thirsty or they smell something good. Keep clean. Wipe down kitchen counters, floors and cabinets with equal parts vinegar and water. Place animal food bowls in shallow pans of vinegar or water (you can add a little citrus oil or something to deter ants further as long as your animals leave it alone). Lay a line of boric acid (can be mixed with sugar) along the ants path or sprinkle (or use an old spray bottle) behind areas such as ovens, sinks, washers and toilets.
Cayenne pepper, chili pepper, cream of tartar, dried peppermint, paprika, cinnamon, salt, dried sage, cucumber peelings and boric acid all act as a barriers they will not cross. For heavy Infestations mix 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 tablespoon borax, and 2 tablespoons water into a thick syrup. Soak cotton balls in the mixture and place the cottonballs on low lids or something flat that ants can reach. Place these lids in the middle of ant infestations. The ants will eat it and take it back to the nest and the numbers will diminish slowly. Read more...
Colder weather outside encourages people to drink warmer drinks to stay warm on the inside. However, perhaps you’re tired of cold-weather drinks like coffee or hot cocoa. You may be looking for hot and healthy winter tea recipes to enjoy instead.
More than warming up a body, research shows hot or warm drinks may also improve your immune system. This is due to the fact that hot drinks such as coffee and tea have large amounts of antioxidants in them.
Chamomile tea with honey and lemon is one warm drink you may want to try, especially when you’ve had a stressful day. As well as having antioxidants, chamomile tea has been shown to calm the nerves. It also provides other health benefits including increased glycine which may be helpful for women during early pregnancy. Another benefit is that it helps lower hippurate in your digestive system due to the antimicrobial properties of the tea. Read more...
As a parent or someone who cares for children, it’s important to know when they’re sick. They’re cranky, don’t feel well, and they may be feverish. Learning how to keep a fever down in children is an important thing to know, especially if the children are too young to tell you how they feel.
Know how to take a child’s temperature. Temperatures may be taken rectally, under the arm, or orally, with different thermometers of course. There are also thermometers which take a temperature in the ear. Please realize each of these methods may not give you the same result. Be sure to let your child’s doctor know how you took your child’s temperature should you need to contact them.
It’s also important to know what constitutes having a fever. Some children may have a higher or lower normal body temperature so a fever to them may be different. During one of your child’s well visits, ask the doctor at which point you should contact them if your child has a fever. They will let you know if they consider 100 degrees or a higher number to be a fever. Read more...
In a double boiler, melt the beeswax in the mineral oil. Remove the upper pan from the lower one, allow the mixture to cool slightly (but not to the point at which the surface skims over), and stir in the essential oils. Allow the mixture to cool completely. Store in a jar with a tight lid.
Apply the polish to the wood surface sparingly with a rag or pad, leave it for about 5 minutes to allow the wood to absorb it, then rub off any excess with a clean cloth.
Most of the dirt that gets into our homes hitchhikes on our shoes. Remove them at the door, and you might spend less time cleaning. But taking footwear off at our house exposes another problem: stinky sneakers.
To solve it, I’ve made sachets filled with absorbent clay cat litter scented with an assortment of essential oils. I place a sachet in each sneaker and leave it there overnight. Below is the formula that my boys like; I prefer more lavender myself. You may reuse the sachets for as long as the scent lasts.
Stir the oils into the cat litter in a glass jar, cover, and let the mixture age for a week. Fill the socks with the sachet blend and close them with the rubber bands.
Combine 15 drops of your essential oil blend with one ounce of vodka in a glass bottle and shake well. Ideally, allow your perfume to sit in a cool, dark place for a couple of weeks before using it, which allows time for the essential oils to meld together and results in a rich, complex blend. For ease of application, store your perfume in a small glass bottle with an atomizer top.
If you prefer an oil-based perfume, you can add 15 to 30 drops of your essential oil blend to one ounce of jojoba oil in a glass bottle and shake well. An oil-based perfume can be used immediately. Apply a drop or two to pulse points at your wrists and neck
Caution: Take this only once a day (at bedtime, to induce sleep).
